My goal with this Substack writing project is simple and composed of a few evolving themes. Each month I’ll be publishing 5-8 pieces in the Zibaldone journal and here’s an idea of what you can expect to see:
-Phenology Notes will be published 2-4 times per month. Each week I record interesting information about what’s going on in the natural world in real time around me, season by season. In the phenology field notes, you’ll see that I share records on plant and animal phenology.
-Each month I’ll be sharing one ecological, foraging, or natural history piece in the form of a prose entry, an essay, or an article. These will be labeled under Ecology.
-Interpretations of Philosophy. These philosophical pieces will be published once every 1-2 months.
-The Emerson Journals. Throughout 2025, I will be publishing my interpretations of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s work. These journals will be published once every 1-2 months.
-One in-depth book recommendation per month, along with my own personal review of the text and relevant insights I extracted from it.
-If you are a parent, you will especially get something out of this Substack. I’m a very involved father (of three boys) and take fatherhood seriously; as a craft, a life purpose, and as a living philosophy. I will be sharing my insights into parenting, including experiences, challenges, and intentions. A Father's Life will be published once a month.
- Lastly, as the zibaldone is a catch all for my writings, there will be undescribed content published here from time to time. These miscellaneous topics will act as the lignin and cellulose that bind my other writings together.
